A coin from the "Inventions" series, dated 1995, devoted to Charles Babbage, who designed the Analytical Engine in the nineteenth century, the forerunner of the computer. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. Its crowns are legal tender on the island but are not released into circulation: they are coins made for collectors from the outset, struck by the private British Pobjoy Mint. The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The series is designed for thematic collecting: issues appeared several subjects at a time each year and build into a complete set.
