In the summer of 1941, in the first weeks of the occupation, the Greek state issued paper small change: a one-drachma note in the name of the «Hellenic State» (Elliniki Politeia) dated 18 June 1941. On the left of the front is Aristotle, the philosopher and scientist of the 4th century BC.
The back shows an ancient coin, so the little note works like a pocket museum: the sage on one side, an ancient coin die on the other. The issue was printed by the Athens firm Aspioti-ELKA.
The one-drachma note belonged to a series of state small change of the same date, together with the 50-lepta, 2- and 5-drachma notes.
In a collection of wartime Greece this is the opening piece of the 1941 series, and for a «philosophers on money» theme it is one of the few notes with Aristotle. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
