A Ghanaian blowing a traditional horn is the subject of the five pesewas of today’s cedi, introduced on 2 July 2007. The redenomination set one new cedi equal to 10,000 old ones, and the coins of the new range received designs of their own.
The reverse shows the musician with his horn and the value «5 PESEWAS» to the right. The obverse carries the full national coat of arms with «GHANA» and the date «2016» below: the shield, the eagle supporters and the black star of Africa above them.
In old money this coin would have been worth 500 cedis, since one new pesewa equals a hundred former cedis. The design has not changed since 2007, so the 2016 coin continues the first type of the third cedi and takes its place in a date run.
Grade UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre, with only minor bag marks possible. For a modern Africa collection it is an example just as it left the mint.
VPcoins is an online shop for collectors, where a coin is chosen not at random but for a specific collection.
