A schoolgirl carrying books on her head is the heroine of the face of the Ghanaian 2 cedis of 1982, an image of education as the road to the future. The back shows workers in a rice field.
The 1979 series shares a common motif: the face of every denomination carries a carved figure, a star and the portrait of a Ghanaian. The backs add up to a panorama of work: basket weaving on the 1 cedi, a rice field on the 2 cedis, log sawing on the 5 cedis, fishermen on the 10 cedis, a weaver on the 20 cedis and the splitting of cocoa pods on the 50 cedis. Sheets of the series are dated from 7 February 1979 to 6 March 1982.
The note was issued by the Bank of Ghana; the Pick catalogue lists the type as P18, the sheet dated 6 March 1982 being variety P18d.
In a Ghana collection the note fills a position in the 1979–1982 series, and in a thematic set on African crafts and rural labour it serves as a vivid illustration. AU-UNC condition sits at the edge of uncirculated: there are virtually no signs of circulation, at most one light fold or a faint counting mark.
