The 2018 Gibraltar pound shows a building in London: New Calpe House in Norfolk Square, set against the sun within a concentric circle. That year the whole range of circulating coins, from the penny to the pound, shared a single theme.
Around the reverse run the legends YOUR HOME FROM HOME, GIBRALTAR IN LONDON and NEW CALPE HOUSE, NORFOLK SQUARE. The obverse legend ELIZABETH II · D · G · REGINA · GIBRALTAR means «Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen of Gibraltar». The coin was struck by Pobjoy Mint; its edge is not fully reeded but made of three plain and three reeded sections.
For the attentive collector there are die varieties too, with the letters AB, BA, BB, BC, BD, CA and CB. Grade UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre. A one-year design, it stands out in a date run of Gibraltar pounds.
If this coin has caught your interest, the VPcoins catalogue has other issues from the same issuer worth seeing.
