From 2017 the Gibraltar penny received a new design almost every year: the anniversary of the 1967 referendum, then New Calpe House, the 2019 Island Games and Commonwealth Park. The 2018 coin is the second in this run of one-year types, and its subject stands not on the Rock but in London, in Norfolk Square.
The reverse shows the emblem of New Calpe House, a stylised building with the sun behind it, and the legends NEW CALPE HOUSE, NORFOLK SQUARE, YOUR HOME FROM HOME and GIBRALTAR IN LONDON. In 2018 the same theme was given to every circulating denomination of Gibraltar from the penny to the pound. The obverse legend ELIZABETH II · D · G · REGINA · GIBRALTAR means «Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen of Gibraltar»; the coin was struck by Pobjoy Mint.
Grade UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre. In a date run of Gibraltar pennies a one-year type is a piece that neighbouring years cannot replace.
VPcoins brings coins and banknotes from all over the world together in one catalogue.
