The scales of justice on a bimetallic cedi and five pesewa coins from 1 to 50 — the complete coin range with which Ghana launched its new cedi in 2007 after redenominating at 10,000 to 1.
Each coin speaks for a different side of national life. The Adomi Bridge over the Volta on the 1 pesewa stands for infrastructure; a man with a traditional horn on the 5 pesewas for music; a book and pen on the 10 pesewas for education; cocoa pods on the 20 pesewas for the main export crop; a market woman on the 50 pesewas for everyday trade. The other side of every coin bears the full national coat of arms.
The set is crowned by the 1 cedi, a bimetallic coin with a centre and ring of contrasting colour and the scales of justice at its heart. The 1 pesewa is dated 2007, while the nickel-plated pesewas were struck in later years up to 2016, so both dates are found in the set.
Six denominations make a finished run of the new cedi, from small change to the full monetary unit, and fit neatly on a single page of a Ghana album.
UNC: the coins never circulated, show no wear and keep their mint lustre.
