The Queen and Prince Charles in a garden: with this 2002 50 pence the Falkland Islands recalled the Chelsea Flower Show, one of Britain’s best-known gardening events.
The show is held every May by the Royal Horticultural Society in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, and members of the royal family traditionally attend. The reverse shows Elizabeth II and Prince Charles in a garden with the inscription «CHELSEA FLOWERSHOW».
The coin belongs to the Falklands issue for the 50th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s accession. The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf’s portrait of the Queen with the legend «QUEEN ELIZABETH II · 2002 · FALKLAND ISLANDS · 50 PENCE». It is a large crown-sized coin in copper-nickel.
Grade UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre. An unusual combination of royal and garden themes — for the jubilee series and for a collection about flowers and gardens.
