The 2016 Jersey ten pence is the final year of the steel type, and the reverse still shows the Neolithic Faldouet Dolmen from the parish of St Martin.
In 2012 the coin moved from cupronickel to nickel-plated steel, so these ten pence pieces are attracted by a magnet. Robert Lowe’s design was kept: the stone tomb and the legend «BAILIWICK OF JERSEY TEN PENCE»; the obverse bears Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Elizabeth II.
The dolmen is about six thousand years old. Excavations of its side chambers uncovered human remains, pottery vessels, polished stone axes and pendants. The steel type was issued in 2012, 2014 and 2016, and the 2016 mintage of 490,000 is the largest of the three.
Grade UNC: the coin has never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre.
