As Beijing prepared for the 2008 Olympics, the panda Jingjing became one of the five Games mascots. The mascots were unveiled on 11 November 2005, exactly a thousand days before the opening. The Olympic year, 2008, is on this souvenir «30 yuan» panda token.
Among the five Olympic rings Jingjing stood for the black one, and the character carried a conservation message: the panda is an endangered species and a long-standing international symbol of the environmental movement.
The token is private souvenir production, not a People’s Bank of China coin; the denomination is nominal and it has no monetary value. UNC condition: it never circulated. It belongs in an Olympic themed collection or a year-by-year set of souvenir pandas.
For collectors, VPcoins gathers numismatic items from many countries and eras in one catalogue.
