When the pandas Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing arrived at the National Zoo in Washington in 1972, after Nixon’s visit to China, about 1.1 million people came to see them in the first year. Mao Zedong promised the pandas to an American zoo, and Pat Nixon presented them to it. This souvenir «30 yuan» token dated 1993 is another reminder of the animal’s worldwide fame.
This is a private souvenir product: not a coin of the People’s Bank of China, and the token has no legal tender status.
UNC condition, no signs of circulation. With «panda diplomacy» as its backdrop, the token suits those who collect items about China and its symbols.
