The 2005 50 pula brings together Botswana’s founding father and its most famous landscape. The front shows Sir Seretse Khama, who led the country to independence and in 1966 became its first president, remaining in office until his death in 1980.
The back shows the Okavango Delta. The bank kept this scene in the 2009 family, where it is described as a man in a mokoro, a narrow dugout canoe, with a fish eagle above the channels.
The note predates the current family by four years: in 2009 the Bank of Botswana renewed the series but kept the earlier designs, colours and layout, so the image of Seretse Khama on the 50 pula remained familiar.
In a Botswana collection this is the 50 pula of the series that preceded the 2009 family, and in a «founders of nations» set it offers the portrait of the country’s first president. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
