The 20 leva of 1950 is a note of the «first lev», issued only shortly before the switch to new money. The front bears a large «20» and the Bulgarian National Bank’s promise to pay the bearer; the back shows the bank’s own building.
The note did not last long: on 12 May 1952 it was withdrawn, and on the same day the new lev notes dated 1951, printed in Moscow, entered circulation.
For a Bulgaria collection this is a bridge between eras: next to the 1951 series it clearly shows the change of money in the early 1950s. AU-UNC condition sits at the edge of uncirculated: there are virtually no signs of circulation, at most one light fold or a faint counting mark.
A banknote from the VPcoins catalogue is a gift that is interesting to examine and has a story worth telling.
