Samoa — 50 Tala 2025

A modern polymer banknote with a denomination of 50 Tala, issued on 8 December 2025 by the Central Bank of Samoa (Central Bank of Samoa / Faletupe Tutotonu o Samoa) as part of the final stage of the transition of the entire series to the SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate by De La Rue. This is a reprint of the previous paper design adapted for polymer, with increased durability, enhanced security features, and tactile marks for visually impaired users.

The obverse features the Government Building at Matagialalua in the center, the coat of arms of Samoa, and inscriptions in English and Samoan. The main color is purple with multicolored elements. The design emphasizes the country’s political and economic stability.

The reverse shows the Central Bank of Samoa building in Apia at the center, with elements of national symbolism. Multicolor printing highlights purple, blue, and other tones. The design maintains a connection with government institutions and the modern history of independent Samoa.

Among the security features:

• complex transparent window with mirror-reflecting effect and Samoan tatau pattern in high-reflective inks
• Teuila flower in the window (difficult-to-counterfeit feature)
• tactile embossed elements and relief printing for visually impaired
• microtext, complex background ornaments, and holographic effects
• no traditional security thread (replaced by polymer properties and window elements)
• fluorescent properties of serial numbers and elements under UV light
