India, 2 rupees, 1975-1996
Low-denomination banknote, issued by the Reserve Bank of India during 1975–1996 (ND). Signed by Governor R. N. Malhotra. Part of a series featuring India’s first satellite.
The obverse features the Ashoka Pillar (Ashoka Pillar, lion with wheel) in the center, symbolizing statehood and India’s ancient history. On the right is a vertical black serial number; the denomination «TWO RUPEES», issuer name, multilingual panel, and signature are indicated.
The reverse is dedicated to space achievements: it depicts India’s first satellite Aryabhata, launched in 1975, orbiting the Earth. The composition emphasizes scientific progress and technological independence of the country in the 1970s–1980s.
Perforation (with holes / staple holes) — typical staple marks, characteristic of notes issued in bundles.
Security features of the series include:
- watermark (Ashoka Pillar / Ashoka Pillar)
- security thread
- microtext
- see-through elements
The banknote is interesting to both beginner and experienced collectors due to its symbolism, historical context of the Aryabhata launch, and characteristic staple holes highlighting its «bundle» origin.
