The Bank of Greece issued these 50 drachmas on 22 February 1943, at the height of the country's occupation by the Axis powers. The note belongs to the occupation series of 1941–1944, which accompanied mounting inflation.
On the left of the front is a woman in traditional costume, with the denomination in the centre. On the back, on both sides of the denomination, is an ancient coin from Dodona, the site of the ancient sanctuary of Zeus in Epirus.
The note fills the year 1943 in a Greece collection and fits a selection of Second World War money; next to the pre-war 50 drachmas of 1939 (P107) it shows how Greek money changed during the war years. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
Collectors who focus on a single country will find its other banknote issues in the VPcoins catalogue as well.
