The scalloped edge sets the Bahamian 10 cents apart from round coins at once, and across the reverse swim two bonefish (Albula vulpes).
The reverse design is the work of Arnold Machin, who created the whole 1966 series; on this type the value is spelled out as «TEN CENTS». The obverse carries the arms of The Bahamas with «COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS» and the motto «FORWARD UPWARD ONWARD TOGETHER». The copper-nickel type with the arms was struck from 1974 to 2005, and in 2007 it gave way to a nickel-plated steel coin with the value in figures, «10 CENTS».
The 1998 piece comes from the copper-nickel era of the Bahamian ten-cent coin. It fits equally well into a fish-on-coins topical set, a collection of unusually shaped coins or a date run of The Bahamas.
UNC grade: the coin has never circulated, the relief of the fish and the scallops of the edge are untouched by wear and the mint lustre remains; only minor bag marks are acceptable.
The VPcoins catalogue brings together coins from many countries and eras, from circulation issues to commemorative series, so a collection is easy to continue.
