A sword, a helmet and a shield beside the khari-bulbul flower: on the 20 manat the theme of «Karabakh» is told through symbols of strength and peace.
The khari-bulbul on the obverse is a symbol of peace, and the same flower reappears in the watermark. The reverse has a stylised map symbolising Azerbaijan’s integration into Europe and a national ornament. In the hologram «20» and «MANAT» alternate in 3D, and the numeral shifts from green to blue.
Dated 2005, the note belongs to the new manat series that Azerbaijan introduced in 2006 with the 5,000-to-1 redenomination. The series was designed by the Austrian Robert Kalina, author of the euro banknote designs.
For an Azerbaijan collection this is the original version of the «Karabakh» twenty: in 2022 the Central Bank issued an upgraded version, and together they show how a single design evolved. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
