Australia's banknotes were a world first in currency manufacturing: this was the first full series printed on polymer — that is, on plastic. The Reserve Bank of Australia first issued this denomination on 1 November 1993.
The face shows Andrew Barton «Banjo» Paterson, a poet and ballad writer born in rural New South Wales. The back shows Dame Mary Gilmore, who campaigned for a wide range of social and economic reforms.
The most interesting security features are the dark printing is produced with a special raised ink that can be felt with your finger, the clear window should be part of the banknote and not an addition and diamond-shaped patterns printed inside a circle on each side of the banknote.
The Australian run suits a collection because it shows a whole transition: paper, the world's first complete polymer issue, and the current series in which every denomination has its own bird and its own wattle. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
If this banknote has caught your interest, the VPcoins catalogue has other issues from the same issuer worth seeing.
