The 1934 half crown is a low-mintage year of late George V: about 2.4 million were struck, nearly three times fewer than in 1935, when the figure reached about 7 million.
The reverse was created by George Kruger Gray for the redesigned series of 1927: a crowned shield of the royal arms between the King’s crowned monograms, with FID DEF IND IMP above and HALF CROWN and the date below. The Royal Mint Museum sees in these designs the hand of an artist with a real understanding of heraldry.
The obverse portrait of George V is by the Australian sculptor Bertram Mackennal, with the legend GEORGIVS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX. The coin is .500 silver, which replaced sterling silver under the 1920 legislation.
In a date run of George V half crowns, 1934 is a low-mintage position. The F-VF grade means noticeable even wear and smoothed high points, while the main details and legends remain legible.
