A Birman is recognised by its feet. All four wear pure white gloves that must cover the toes completely, and on the hind legs the white runs upwards in points known as laces. These markings go with a colourpoint coat and deep sapphire-blue eyes.
Known as the Sacred Cat of Burma and wrapped in temple legends, the breed has a documented history that unfolded in Europe. It reached America relatively late: the Cat Fanciers' Association accepted it for registration in 1967.
On this 2013 Fiji 2 dollars the Birman represents the Fluffy Cat series, alongside such breeds as the Somali, the American Curl and the Norwegian Forest Cat. The design is coloured, the mintage is 5,000, and each coin contains one ounce of .999 silver, struck in proof with a mirror field. The obverse reads FIJI 2013, with the motto of Fiji and the 2 DOLLARS denomination.
