A road running off into an unknown landscape: this is how Norway marked the arrival of the year 2000 on its 20 kroner — no fireworks or clock faces, simply a way into the future.
Both sides were designed by Marit Wiklund. On the reverse the road leads through the landscape towards the horizon, accompanied by «20 KRONER ÅR 2000» in three lines and her initials «MW». The obverse carries King Harald V’s portrait facing right with the legend «HARALD V NORGES KONGE» and the Kongsberg mintmark, a crossed pick and hammer.
Norges Bank marked the millennium with several issues, among them a one-ounce silver 100 kroner inscribed «TIDER SKAL KOMME», produced together with the organisation «Norge 2000». The circulating 20 kroner was the most accessible part of the programme, with a total mintage of 1,032,307 pieces, including 10,000 BU and 13,000 proof coins for collectors.
Uncirculated condition: the coin never circulated, shows no wear and keeps its mint lustre. The millennium date and its landscape design make it a notable piece in a collection of Harald V’s commemorative 20 kroner or in a millennium-themed set.
This coin is one of the items in the VPcoins catalogue, which brings together commemorative, circulation and bullion coins from around the world.
