The writer Karen Blixen (1885–1962) is the face of the fifty kroner of the 1997 series, in which portraits of Danish cultural figures sit alongside stone reliefs from Danish churches. Blixen wrote in Danish and English, and her world fame rests on «Out of Africa», her account of life in Kenya.
The back shows a centaur, half man and half horse, from a stone relief in Landet Church on the island of Tåsinge. The hundred kroner of the same series features the composer Carl Nielsen and a basilisk from the church at Tømmerby, the thousand the painters Anna and Michael Ancher.
The note is dated 2006 and belongs to type P60, a later issue of the same note that succeeded the first type, P55. Danmarks Nationalbank withdrew all series from 1944 to 1997 at the end of May 2025, and after 31 May 2026 they lost their value for good: this is now a note for the collection rather than the wallet.
For a «writers on banknotes» theme this is a precise Karen Blixen piece, and in a Danish collection it is the fifty kroner of the 1997 series, now entirely out of circulation. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
Banknotes from the VPcoins catalogue are collected by seasoned collectors and newcomers alike.
