This 1984 fils dates from the final years of Jordan’s smallest denomination: the thousandth of a dinar was minted for the last time in 1985, and the 1984 issue amounted to just 100,000 pieces.
The obverse carries the head of King Hussein bin Talal facing right, by the British engraver Geoffrey Colley; this portrait arrived on Jordanian coins in 1978. The legend «الحسين بن طلال ملك المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية» names him King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The reverse shows the value «فلس واحد» and «ONE FILS» in a circle between sprigs, with a double date: 1404 of the Hijri calendar and 1984.
The bronze fils was struck by the Royal Mint at Llantrisant. The Colley portrait type ran from 1978 to 1985 and proved to be the last type in the history of the Jordanian fils.
For a collection of Hussein’s reign or of vanished denominations, this is an example of the final type. Uncirculated means the coin never entered circulation: no wear, original mint lustre, with only minor marks from storage possible.
At VPcoins you will find coins for a collection, for a gift, or simply for the pleasure of owning them.
