The obverse shows a portrait of King Gent, the last ruler of Illyria, and the texts «BANKA E SHQIPËRISË», «DY MIJË LEKË», «GENT 181–168 p.e.s.». The reverse shows elements of ancient Illyrian architecture and the Gentiana flower.
A banknote of the Bank of Albania from the current lek series, put into circulation on 17 January 2022. The most interesting security features are raised print — it is used in the most visible parts of the note and its surface is tactile, especially in the main texts and image; ultraviolet properties — every denomination of the series has surfaces printed in fluorescent ink and visible under UV light, and the same applies to the security thread and the invisible fibres; and a watermark, a design inside the paper — each note has a three-dimensional watermark with a portrait matching the main portrait of the note, seen against the light.
The Albanian lek is collected by series: the current series of 2019–2022, the earlier issuances of 1996–2015 and the notes of the State Bank of Albania before 1992 are different designs, each with its own sizes and colours. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
For those who collect banknotes by subject, whether wildlife, architecture or famous people, the VPcoins catalogue offers other themed issues too.
