These pengő notes were issued not by the Hungarian bank but by the Red Army Command: the note reads «A Vöröshadsereg Parancsnoksága», «Red Army Command». The occupying army issued such military money under the Hague Conventions.
The text on the note makes it compulsory in all payments and threatens forgers with martial law. The 1944 series ran from 1 to 100 pengő.
The one-pengő note is the lowest in the series; the catalogue describes it as blue on a light brown underprint, without a serial number.
For a Hungary collection and for a «military and occupation money of the Second World War» theme this is the starting piece of the 1944 Red Army series. G-VG condition means heavy signs of circulation: many folds and much wear, with possible edge defects — a note that has passed through many hands.
Collectors who focus on a single country will find its other banknote issues in the VPcoins catalogue as well.
