The twenty-dollar note of the Bank of Guyana combines two images of the country, wild nature and work by the water. The front shows Kaieteur Falls and the bank’s emblem; the back shows a shipyard with a vessel under construction and the ferry Malali at the quay.
Kaieteur is a waterfall on the Potaro River with one of the highest single-drop plunges in the world, about 226 metres. The twenty-dollar design goes back to the first series of 1965, and on 16 September 1996 the bank issued a revised version in which the digits of the serial number grow progressively larger, making forgery harder.
This version is still printed today; only the signatures of the bank governor and the finance minister change. Protection is completed by intaglio printing, raised to the touch, and an embedded security thread.
The note is the lowest value of Guyana’s current range and a piece for a «ships and ports on banknotes» set; its versions with different signatures let a collector trace its history year by year. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
The VPcoins catalogue unites coins and banknotes from many countries and eras.
