Maltese commemorative 2 euro coin of 2022: the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum.

The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum is a prehistoric underground site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The coin shows a detail of the prehistoric site, with MALTA above the year 2022 at top left, ĦAL – SAFLIENI HYPOGEUM and 4 000 – 2 500 BC at the bottom and the designer’s initials NGB of Noel Galea Bason at bottom right.

Commemorative 2 euro coins share the properties and the common side of normal 2 euro coins and are legal tender throughout the euro area. Bimetallic, 25.75 mm, 8.5 g; the outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union. According to the ECB: mintage 192,000, issued in May 2022.

For a euro collection it is one of the national commemorative coins of Malta.
