A left-facing head of Liberty in a Phrygian cap, with stars in the legend REPUBLICA ARGENTINA * LIBERTAD *: this is how Argentina’s 5 centavos looked in 1957–1959.
The reverse shows the value 5 CENTAVOS and the date within a laurel wreath. The type was struck on a clad steel core rather than in solid non-ferrous metal like the coins of the 1940s. About 15 million pieces are dated 1959.
On 1 January 1970, with the switch to the peso ley at 100 to 1, these coins ceased to be legal tender.
Condition AU-UNC: no signs of circulation or only the faintest traces on the highest points of the profile, with lustre retained. For a coin that circulated in huge numbers, that is well above the usual level.
A collectable coin from VPcoins can be an addition to your own collection or a meaningful gift.
