Irish commemorative 2 euro coin of 2022: 35 years of the Erasmus programme.

This is the joint coin issued by euro area countries for the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus student exchange programme. The design combines its two major elements: its intellectual inspiration, Erasmus himself, in one of his best-known depictions, and an allegory of its influence over Europe. A beam of links crosses the coin from one beacon to another, representing the many intellectual and human exchanges between European students; some links form new stars born from the synergy between the countries, and the figure 35 emerges from the stars in a contemporary graphic style.

Commemorative 2 euro coins share the properties and the common side of normal 2 euro coins and are legal tender throughout the euro area. Bimetallic, 25.75 mm, 8.5 g; the outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union. According to the ECB: issued on 1 July 2022, with the mintage varying by country.

For a euro collection it is the Irish version of the joint euro area coin.
