Swissmint titled the 1995 issue of its 20 franc silver commemoratives, KM# 75, after a queen of snakes from the Grisons. It stands second in the "Landscapes" series issued from 1994 to 1996: Teufelsbrücke (1994) came first, then this legend from the canton of Graubünden, and the 1996 pair, a giant and a dragon, closed the cycle.
Every coin in this cycle came from one hand, Peter Emch of Zurich, who signed it EMCH beneath the picture. Here a snake wearing a crown is airborne, heading leftward past a tree, with peaks rising in the distance. Its counterpart is kept plain: a big cross carrying the value, the country's Latin name, the year and Bern's B.
Mintage was 235,000 uncirculated and 30,700 proof, a little below the Devil's Bridge at 240,000. Numbers only fell from here, so for anyone completing the series each later coin is scarcer than the one before. Raised lettering on the edge repeats the Latin motto used across the 20 franc line since 1992.
As an AU-UNC example it has barely been handled in commerce; at most a trace of friction touches the top of the relief, and the original lustre survives.
