The anniversary behind this set is 1 January 1960, when the French-administered part of Cameroon became independent under its first president, Ahmadou Ahidjo. The country took its present shape a year later: after a 1961 referendum the southern part of the British zone joined former French Cameroon to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon, while the northern part went to Nigeria.
The five pieces — 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 francs — share an animal theme and carry the dates 1960 and 2020 to mark sixty years of statehood. Their other side borrows the look of Central African money, with the value and the legend EMISSION DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE CENTRALE.
Collectors should know exactly what they are getting. Numista files these pieces under fantasy issues, naming Cameroon only as the "pretended issuer": this is a souvenir product, not currency released by a central bank. Its appeal lies in the theme, making it a good fit for wildlife, Africa or anniversary collections rather than a type set of legal-tender coins.
Uncirculated (UNC): never in circulation.
