A wheelchair tennis player swinging a racket: with this coin in 2021, the Monnaie de Paris brought the Paralympic Games into its Olympic quarter-euro series from the very start. Wheelchair tennis was one of the three sports of the series’ first year, alongside judo and swimming.
The reverse shows the athlete in action, the legend «TENNIS FAUTEUIL», the words «JEUX PARALYMPIQUES» and the year 2021. The obverse differs from the Olympic coins of the series: above the view of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower and the Seine drawn as a running track, sits the Paris 2024 Paralympic emblem. The design is by Joaquin Jimenez.
The Paralympics ran from 28 August to 8 September 2024, and the wheelchair tennis tournament was hosted at Roland Garros, home of the French Open. The mintage is 1,000,000.
It is a key coin for a Paralympic-themed collection and for a complete set of the Paris series. Grade UNC: never circulated, no wear.
