Seven coins, from 5 cents to 5 emalangeni, present the full circulation range of Swaziland in 1999-2011, including the two top denominations that appeared in 1995.
The line-up: 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, 1 lilangeni, 2 and 5 emalangeni, all with the portrait of King Mswati III. The reverses continue the themes of the first series of 1974: sugar cane, an elephant’s head, the state arms with lion and elephant; the 2 emalangeni shows lilies.
These coins were withdrawn in 2016, when the Central Bank introduced a new series dated 2015. Among its reasons the bank named the old coins’ poor economy and the confusion caused by their many types.
For a Swaziland collection the set is a ready display of Mswati III’s pre-reform coinage, from the smallest coin to the five. UNC condition: never circulated, no wear.
