The 2004 10 dram is the only aluminium coin of Armenia’s second series: the other denominations of 2003–2004 were struck in plated steel and copper alloys, and the 500 dram is bimetallic.
The comparison with its predecessor is telling. The first-series 10 dram of 1994, also aluminium, measured 28 mm, while the new coin shrank to 20 mm. It carries the state coat of arms, the full name of the country and the value in words, «ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ» and «ՏԱՍԸ ԴՐԱՄ» (Republic of Armenia, Ten Dram); the other side shows only «10 ԴՐԱՄ». It was struck by the Mint of Poland in Warsaw.
The Central Bank of Armenia put the second series (10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 dram) into circulation in 2003–2004, and the 10 dram dated 2004 fills its lowest denomination.
Uncirculated (UNC) grade: the coin never circulated, has no wear and keeps its mint lustre; only minor bag marks are acceptable.
