Latvia 2 rubles 1992

A temporary (pagaidu) 2 ruble banknote issued by the Bank of Latvia as a transitional currency after the restoration of independence. Printed on paper by Rīgas Paraugtipogrāfija.

On the obverse — large denomination numeral “2” and the inscription “LATVIJAS BANKAS PAGaidu NAUDAS ZĪME 1992” against a complex geometric pattern. Main color — violet and orange with a yellow-brown underprint. Signatures: President of the Bank of Latvia Einars Repše and Chief Cashier Jānis Ozoliņš. Inscriptions in Latvian.

On the reverse — symmetrical abstract geometric pattern with the large inscription “DIVI LATVIJAS RUBĻI”. Multicolored printing with predominance of violet, orange and yellow tones. The design is minimalist, without portraits or coats of arms, emphasizing the transitional period and the revival of Latvia’s national currency system.
