Only 250,000 pieces, a quarter of the 1937 figure: the Liberian half cent of 1941 kept the earlier design but changed its metal. Instead of brass it was struck in copper-nickel, 75 % copper and 25 % nickel.
The obverse shows an elephant walking left within a circle and the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The reverse has a palm tree between a ship and the sun, with a bird flying behind, stars and the words ONE HALF CENT with the date. The composition goes back to the Liberian arms of 1847: the ship recalls the vessels that brought settlers from the United States and the palm stands for prosperity.
Very Fine condition: noticeable wear on the raised parts of the relief, with all the main details and legends clear. The small mintage and the change of metal make this coin the essential partner to the 1937 half cent in a Liberia collection.
