The back of this two-kwacha note shows a school lesson: a teacher helps a child to paint, with the school building on the right. In a series whose neighbouring denominations show cotton picking and the Kariba Dam, this one is devoted to education.
The front follows the canon of the 1980–1988 series: on the right is a portrait of Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia's first president, who led the country from 1964 to 1991, and to the left is the African fish eagle. The note carries the motto «One Zambia, One Nation».
The notes were printed by Thomas De La Rue in London. The P24c variety appeared in 1986–1988 with the signature of Governor Leonard Chivuno. After the kwacha was redenominated, these notes lost legal tender status on 1 July 2013.
The note fills the 2-kwacha slot in the Kaunda portrait series and fits a thematic collection on education in world currency. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
A banknote from the VPcoins catalogue is a gift that is interesting to examine and has a story worth telling.
