Dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, one of the oldest higher educational institutions in Ukraine, founded in 1615 as the Kiev Brotherhood School. It is difficult to overestimate the role of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy in the history of Ukraine. She had a huge influence on the development of education, science, culture, public consciousness, and contributed to the rise of the intellectual level of the nation. Over its centuries-old history, the Academy and its graduates played a decisive role at many stages of the historical development of Ukraine.
On the obverse of the coin, in the center on a mirror background, is the image of the coat of arms of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy. The bottom is framed by a ribbon - a cartouche with an inscription in Latin of the university motto - “TEMPUS FUGIT, ACADEMIA SEMPITERNA” (“TIME PASSING – THE ACADEMY IS ETERNAL” (PLINY’S HOUR – ACADEMY SEMPITERNA)). Below the coat of arms of the academy, the inscription of the coin's denomination in words is “FIVE HRYVEN” (FIVE HRYVEN). On the upper part of the obverse there is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine. On the right side of the coat of arms is the inscription “UKRAINE” (UKRAINE). On the right side of the coin, above the right side of the ribbon with the motto, the year of minting of the coin is indicated - “2015”.
