A commemorative coin in nickel silver struck to special uncirculated quality. It marks the 700th anniversary of the founding of the mosque of Khan Uzbek and the madrasah, one of the most ancient educational and religious Muslim landmarks bound up with the history and culture of the Crimean Tatar people. The mosque was built on the territory of the town of Staryi Krym at the beginning of the fourteenth century.
The obverse has an original design. On its left side, beginning from the rim, a field with a matt ground is formed in the shape of a large crescent, one of the symbols of Islam, on which is the year of issue, 2014. To the right of the crescent, on a mirror ground, is a stylised openwork ornament in the Eastern manner. Against it is the single-line denomination in a large stylised script, 5 ГРИВЕНЬ, and below it, at the boundary with the crescent, the mark of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. At the top of the obverse, by the rim, is the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine, flanked by the semicircular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ ⌂ БАНК УКРАЇНИ.
The reverse is designed after the manner of the obverse: on its left side is a field with a mirror ground in the shape of a crescent, at the middle of which begins the two-line legend in a large stylised script, 700 / РОКІВ. At the centre of the right part, with its matt ground, is the mosque of Khan Uzbek and the madrasah against a stylised ornament. Along the rim of the reverse run the semicircular legends: from the top rightward and downward МЕЧЕТЬ ХАНА УЗБЕКА І МЕДРЕСЕ and, from the foot leftward and upward, ESKI QIRIM. UZBEK HAN CAMISI VE MEDRESE.
