The inscription «1. JULI – SRPANJ 1992» on the front places the note in the first year of independent Bosnia and Herzegovina: the country declared independence in the spring of 1992, and in the summer the National Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina dated a series of its own dinars with this day. The ten-dinar note is signed by the bank’s governor Stijepo Andrijić, and every inscription is repeated in the Latin and Cyrillic scripts.
The front is given over to guilloches, fine patterns of interlaced lines that are hard to counterfeit. The back shows the Old Bridge over the Neretva in Mostar, one of the country’s foremost monuments. The bridge was destroyed during the war in November 1993 and rebuilt only in 2004, so the note shows it still intact.
The series with this date comprises six values, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 dinars, and the back designs alternate: the bridge on the 10, 50 and 1,000 dinars, the coat of arms on the 25, 100 and 500.
For a thematic set on architecture on banknotes and for a collection on the break-up of Yugoslavia, this is the note showing the Mostar bridge as it was before its destruction in 1993. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
For those who collect banknotes by subject, whether wildlife, architecture or famous people, the VPcoins catalogue offers other themed issues too.
