An anniversary commemorative coin made of bimetal, manufactured to ensure the usual level of quality of coinage, is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of one of the oldest archival repositories in the country - the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine, which was founded in 1852 on the initiative of the Temporary Commission for the analysis of ancient acts at the Kiev, Podolsk and Volyn general governorates and which began its activities in 1853. Today, the archive collection includes about 1.5 million units of unique documents on the history of Ukraine of the 13th and early 20th centuries, including parchment documents of the 13th – 15th centuries, universals of Ukrainian hetmans, a collection of incunabula of early printed books, the Kosh Archive of the New Zaporozhye Sich, the General Description of the Left Bank Ukraine, documents of Hetmanate institutions, monastic and church funds, personal funds.
The obverse of the coin, according to the composition of bimetals, is divided into two round fields, the central field - an inner circle with a golden background, and an outer circle with a silver color. On the inner circle, in the center, in a handwritten font, there is a two-line stylized inscription of the denomination of the coin, - “5 / HRYVEN” (5 / HRYVEN), next to the denomination, on the right there is a quill pen, conventionally ending with writing the word - “GRIVNA”, below the pen there is a wax seal in the center which depicts the small State Emblem of Ukraine. To the right of the seal on the field of the outer circle is the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. In the upper part of the outer circle, the inscription in a semicircle is “UKRAINE” (UKRAINE), in the lower part of the outer circle, the year of minting of the anniversary coin is “2003”.
The reverse of the coin is divided into two round fields of different colors. The center of the inner circle of golden color is occupied by a composition depicting a large hourglass - a symbol of the infinity of time, against the background of the upper vessel of the clock, the inscription of the founding date of the State Archive - “1852”, on the lower vessel of the clock, the year of the anniversary - “2002”. In front of the clock, on the left and right sides of it, there are images of books, maps, photographs. On the outer circle of the reverse there are inscriptions: in the upper part of the outer circle, - “CENTRAL STATE HISTORICAL” (CENTRAL STATE HISTORICAL), at the bottom of the outer circle, - “ARCHIVE OF UKRAINE” (ARCHIVE OF UKRAINE).
