The P mintmark on this dollar points to the Perth Mint, which in 2012 issued Celebrate Australia, a set of five coloured coins devoted to the country's UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Uluru-Kata Tjuta, Lord Howe Island, Fraser Island, Kakadu National Park and the Willandra Lakes Region.
The Uluru-Kata Tjuta coin, KM#1821, brings two subjects together, placing a perentie lizard in front of a colourful skyline of the Northern Territory park. The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Elizabeth II with ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the date.
Only 2,672 pieces were struck. The colour is applied to an aluminium-bronze coin, and that painted panorama is what sets it apart from ordinary Australian dollars.
It belongs in UNESCO-themed or reptile-themed selections and in a complete run of the five Australian heritage sites. Uncirculated: never in circulation, with the coloured image untouched by wear.
