Twelve signs of the zodiac on twelve coins: in 2006 Somaliland issued a 10 shillings for every constellation, from Aquarius to Capricorn, and this set gathers the whole astrological circle.

All the coins share one side with the bank’s name «BAANKA SOMALILAND», a large «10/-» and «TEN SOMALILAND SHILLINGS». The other side shows the figure of the sign, its astrological symbol, its Latin name and the year: «AQUARIUS», «ARIES», «LEO», «SCORPIO» and so on. Aquarius, for instance, empties an urn of water, with the sign’s symbol to the right.

The series was struck in stainless steel and occupies KM# 7–18 in the Krause catalogue. Numista classes it as circulating commemoratives, the first themed cycle of Somaliland ten-shilling coins. It should not be confused with the later zodiac series of 2012, whose coins are larger, in nickel-clad steel and of a different design.

The set works as a gift chosen by birth sign, with a coin for everyone, and as a ready-made topical group for an astrology on coins collection. All twelve coins are UNC: no trace of circulation, mint lustre intact.

At VPcoins you will find coins for a collection, for a gift, or simply for the pleasure of owning them.
