Mongolia — Coin Set 1994–2001

This set of four standard circulation coins was issued by the Bank of Mongolia between 1994 and 2001. The series was introduced following the dissolution of the Mongolian People's Republic in 1992 and the transition to a market economy — amid high inflation, the small-denomination möngö coins lost their practical value and were replaced by tögrög coins. All coins share a common obverse design.

Coins in the set:

• 20 tögrög — aluminium; obverse: soyombo — the national symbol of Mongolia, date; reverse: inscription "МОНГОЛ БАНК 20 ТӨГРӨГ".
• 50 tögrög — aluminium; obverse: soyombo, date; reverse: inscription "МОНГОЛ БАНК 50 ТӨГРӨГ".
• 100 tögrög — aluminium; obverse: soyombo, date; reverse: inscription "МОНГОЛ БАНК 100 ТӨГРӨГ".
• 200 tögrög — aluminium; obverse: soyombo, date; reverse: inscription "МОНГОЛ БАНК 200 ТӨГРӨГ".

The soyombo is the national symbol of Mongolia, consisting of a vertical composition of abstract and geometric elements representing fire, sun, moon, earth, water, and the yin-yang symbol. The soyombo appears on the national flag and coat of arms, and its presence on the coins underscores cultural and national continuity during a period of profound political and economic transformation.
