It shows the church's distinctive east façade and bell tower with the words "SAARLAND" and "G", the mint mark, below them. The coin was designed by Friedrich Brenner, whose initials appear to the right of the image. The outer ring depicts the year of minting, 2009, the 12 stars of the European Union and the words "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND".
