The fifty naira was issued in 1991 and redesigned in 2007: ornamental patterns and geometric motifs adapted from Nigerian traditional art are intricately combined, and the colours were chosen for beauty, distinctiveness and clear identification. This sheet is a polymer one: since 28 February 2007 the lower naira denominations have been printed on plastic.
The obverse shows the hand-engraved portraits of four Nigerians, three men and a woman, superimposed on the map of Nigeria. The reverse shows a big catch by local fishermen.
A banknote of the Central Bank of Nigeria, printed by Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Plc and issued by the CBN. The most interesting security features are a transparent window in the polymer with a shadow image, present on every polymer naira; a see-through image; and tactile marks and shapes by which the visually impaired can identify the note.
The naira is collected by printing, by year and by the signatures of the Governor and the Director of Finance. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
Banknotes from the VPcoins catalogue are collected by seasoned collectors and newcomers alike.
