Every US note of five dollars and above has a serial number opening with two letters: the first identifies the series, the second the Federal Reserve Bank that issued it. Here the second letter is F, the code of the Atlanta bank, sixth in the alphabetical run of twelve from Boston (A) to San Francisco (L).
Series 2017 carries the signatures of Treasurer Jovita Carranza and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The same pair also signed the following Series 2017A, so the two are told apart by the series designation on the face and by the first serial letter, which changes with each series.
Collectors also watch for star notes. When a sheet that already has its serial numbers printed turns out to be faulty, it is replaced by one whose numbers end in a star instead of the final letter.
Uncirculated, this example has never been spent: no folds, no wear and square corners.
