The smallest value of Qatar's new series speaks of the country's pearling past: on the back are a traditional batil dhow and the Oyster and Pearl Monument, a fountain sculpture in Doha.
On 13 December 2020 the Qatar Central Bank unveiled its fifth series of seven denominations, including a 200-riyal note for the first time, and on 18 December, Qatar National Day, the series entered circulation. The fronts of all values share a common design: geometric patterns, the national flag, an ornate gate standing for traditional architecture, and the native dreama flower.
The dreama flower on the front is printed in a special ink: as the note is tilted it changes colour and a bright circle runs across it; this value also has a FACET thread. The first 2020 printing is signed by Governor Abdullah bin Saud Al-Thani and Finance Minister Ali Shareef Al Emadi.
For a Qatar collection this is the opening value of the fifth series, and in a maritime thematic set it combines the dhow with the memory of pearling. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
