The portrait on this banknote was painted by its own subject: the obverse of the 10 bolivianos carries a self-portrait of the painter Cecilio Guzmán de Rojas. The reverse shows a panorama of Cochabamba with the monument to the Heroines of La Coronilla in the foreground.
The family followed a currency reform: in 1987 the new boliviano replaced the peso boliviano at one to a million, and the obverse of every note cites Law No. 901 of 28 November 1986.
This is series H (P233). The ten received a watermark with Guzmán de Rojas himself in the previous series G, and its two horizontal raised bars for the blind as early as series F.
A middle series of the self-portrait ten: in a Bolivia collection it sits between series G and J of the same design, and in an «artists on banknotes» theme it brings the subject of a self-portrait. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
